Our Data Verification Process
How topuniversities.info collects, verifies, and maintains education data
At topuniversities.info, accurate and trustworthy education data is our foundation. This page explains exactly how we collect, verify, and maintain information about colleges, universities, and institutes in India.
1. Source Priority Framework
We follow a strict source priority framework. Data from higher-priority sources overrides data from lower-priority sources:
- Official regulator portal — UGC (ugc.ac.in), AICTE (aicte-india.org), NMC (nmc.org.in), NCVT (ncvtmis.gov.in)
- Official institution website — directly from the college or university’s own domain
- Official placement report — published by the institution itself
- Government database — AISHE portal, NIRF rankings, state education department data
- Trusted aggregator — established education platforms with cited sources
- News / secondary source — news articles, press releases (lowest priority)
2. What We Verify
- Regulatory approval status (UGC, AICTE, NMC, NCVT, state regulator)
- Institution name and official website
- District and state location
- Courses offered and their duration
- Fee range — from official fee structure where available
- Hostel availability — from institution website or direct inquiry
- Contact details — verified against official website
- Nearest railway station and airport connectivity
3. Placement Data Policy
Placement data is among the most frequently misrepresented information in Indian education. Our policy:
- If an official placement report is available from the institution, we use it as the primary source and label it accordingly.
- If placement data is from an aggregator, we label the source confidence clearly.
- We do not inflate placement figures.
- We do not guarantee placements.
- We encourage students to ask for official placement reports directly from the institution’s placement cell.
4. How We Mark Missing or Unverified Data
- NA — data genuinely unavailable after multi-source verification attempt
- Partial Data — some key fields missing or unverified; page marked with a warning
- Needs Review — data flagged for re-verification due to age or conflicting sources
- Verified — all key fields confirmed from at least one priority source
5. Last Verified Date
Every institution page shows a “Last Verified” date. As fee structures, approvals, and contact details change annually, we recommend students verify directly with the institution, especially if the last verified date is older than 12 months.
6. How to Request a Data Correction
If you are a college administrator, student, or parent and you notice incorrect or outdated information, we welcome corrections. Please use our Data Correction Request Form and provide:
- Institution name
- Field that needs correction
- Correct data
- Official source URL (preferred)
We typically review and update within 7–14 working days.
7. What We Do Not Do
- We do not invent or estimate data.
- We do not publish fake rankings.
- We do not accept payment to inflate an institution’s data.
- We do not claim official government affiliation.
- We do not guarantee admission or placement outcomes.
